Bookkeeper

I. Background

Chemonics International is seeking to hire two Bookkeeper for the USAID funded Libya Transition Initiative (LTI) project; one based in Tripoli and one based in Benghazi. The LTI project began in September 2011 with the specific focus of supporting the transitional political process, promoting reconciliation, and building transparency and legitimacy of governance.

The project is currently helping new civil society organizations improve organizational capacity, developing public outreach campaigns to keep citizens informed about the transition process, and supporting emerging independent media outlets to Libya through the transition process. The bookkeeper will help to develop grantee budgets, manage data input into financial reporting systems, and will report on activity expenditures. Candidate will have a background in accounting or relevant field, excellent English communication skills, ability to work independently in excel, and willingness to work in a flexible and fast paced working environment.

Additional requirements include:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Grants Specialist on the budget developing for grants
    • Review the budget for accuracy prior to submission for approval
    • Record the expenditures in the financial system
    • Perform a detailed budget vs. actual analysis for each activity
  • Work Closely with the Operations Director/Finance Manager on financial projections
    • Work with the grantee on budget monitor/re-allocation.
    • Responsible for maintain proper financial data and financial files.
    • Assist the Finance Manager in the monthly closing.
    • Other tasks as assigned by Finance Manager / Operations Manager.
    • Liaise with the regional office to ensure that documents are received in Tripoli in due time.

Work Experience Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in booking and accounting support
  • Training or mentoring experience in an individual or group setting preferred
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and preparation of graphs, tables, charts with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and QuickBooks is required
  • Professional level English and Arabic language skills
  • Libyan Citizen
