Public Information Officer

Overview of position Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to govt. and migrants.
Role objectives Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM), the direct supervision of the Senior Program Coordinator, and in coordination with relevant units including Media and Public information specialist at the regional office in Cairo, the successful candidate will be responsible in supporting the mission with reporting, implementation of internal and external communication and media-related activities for IOM in Libya.
Expected output Assist in reviewing and editing activity reports, media reports and documents prepared by various Mission units for internal and external distribution. 
Draft sections of regular internal mission activities reports and other relevant units in Headquarters as requested. 
Provide content and other information inputs in relation to the visibility of IOM and its work in Libya. 
Ensure media coverage for all IOM activities in Libya. 
Draft, edit and disseminate public information material and reports within the Mission, to other IOM Missions, HQs, and to external sources, including donors, UN agencies, govt. counterparts and other interested stakeholders. 
Liaise closely with the relevant units to regularly update mission documents, such as: the newsletter, the periodic report, information sheets, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and other written reports and materials on IOM programs and events. 
Generate timely and engaging content and regularly update communication platforms including the mission website and social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter). 
Contribute to the inclusion of appropriate gender awareness in all IOM Libya communications. 
Ensure community engagement and beneficiary feedback is included in projects by supporting IOM’s community response map as a M&E tool. 
Provide information and inputs to field and program staff in the sub-offices on public information issues. 
Liaise with media, partners and govt. counterparts on the mission’s work, community activities, events and human interest and migration stories. 
Participate in key mission events and workshops and undertake duty travel to field missions as needed in order to acquire material, including photographs, videos and stories of work being undertaken by the field, that would promote IOM with donors and govt. 
Build internal public information and multimedia capacity. 
Monitor local and international media and news and bring to the management attention any publication concerning migration. 
Review and communicate specific information with local and international media in Arabic and English. 
Ensure direct monitoring of projects activities. 
Conduct regular field visits to the project sites. 
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Project reporting This role reports to the Senior Program Coordinator.
Key competencies Education: 
Master’s Degree in Media Communications, Journalism or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. University Degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience. 

Experience: 
Experience in writing and editing informational materials and reports. 
Experience in operational activities in post-crisis or emergency areas. 
Demonstrated high competency as a writer and an editor in English. 
Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media and video production. 
Work experience in the region is an advantage. 

Languages: 
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
