Title of Position:                     Interpreter 

Contract Type and Level:        Temporary Appointment, GL-4

Location:                                 Tripoli, Libya

Effective date:                         As soon as possible

Duration:                                  Two Months (Renewable)

Closing Date:                            21st December 2017.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position of Interpreter located within the Office of the External relation in Libya Operation. The role of this position is to provide a translation/interpretation support services to the External Relation unit. 

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT

Responsibilities

a)      Interprets and/or translates  from official documents, newspapers, written reports, magazines etc…

b)     Interprets oral conversations, discussions and interviews especially when attending meetings with high ranking officials, diplomats and others;

c)   Translations of major documents are often cited by the media, quoted in statements and incorporated into legislation.

d)     Travels with international staff on their missions to the field for interpretation and other assistance, as needed;

e)      Précis-writers work in teams; the translator need to have excellent oral comprehension skills, versatility, and an ability to stay calm under pressure and complete their work within prescribed deadlines.

f)       Responds to queries relating to the area of responsibility;

g)      Performs other duties as required 

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE and COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

-   Completion of Secondary education or equivalent technical or commercial school with post-secondary training/certificate in Business Administration, Secretarial Work, Interpretation and Translation or related field.

-         Minimum 3 years of previous job experience relevant to the function.

-         Computer skills (MS office and People soft applications).

-         Excellent editing skills in both English and Arabic.

-         Fluency in English and Arabic.
